Our Wedding Photography Process for Brisbane Weddings

How to get started..

How do we get started?

The Process

Having photographed hundreds of weddings over the last 10 years, we have developed a relaxed and hassle free way of providing the wedding photography experience to our clients. See below for our wedding photography process and how the booking process works:

I always recommend meeting with your Brisbane wedding photographer before booking their services. It is important make sure the photographers personality is a match to yours and that they will fit into your day, not take over it! I normally meet clients half way at a local café for coffee to discuss the details of the wedding. Otherwise you are welcome to join me at my home studio for a chat. Quite often client’s are to busy to meet up or will be booking interstate. If this is the case we can have a chat on the phone, pay the deposit and we can arrange to meet up closer to your wedding. It is always a good idea to have a list of questions to ask your wedding photographer so be prepared.

To book our services, we require a 20 percent deposit paid via bank transfer. You can either call me on 0423 722 286 or send me an email. This will lock in your date and we are good to go! The balance is payable is on the day of your wedding, however most client’s like to pay it a couple of weeks before hand which is perfectly fine. Clients also have the luxury of paying in instalments, because lets face it, weddings are expensive!

I will always make sure I give you a phone call a week out from your wedding to create a timeline and to discuss the proceedings of the day. It is also a good way to catch up on any changes or alterations made to your wedding since our meeting. I will create an official photography timeline that is agreed upon by the client and will send it for approval prior to the wedding.

The big day has arrived! Let our experience and knowledge guide you through your big day so you can remain calm and focused. I have photographed over 800 weddings and developed a confident but relaxed approach to weddings. There is nothing I have not seen or witnessed and will ensure your day will go smoothly.

Usually by the time you get back from your honeymoon, I will have your USB ready with all of the edited photographs and will be sending it to your Brisbane address. This will arrive straight to your letterbox. Once you have received it, you may select 80 wedding photographs to be used in your photobook. Once I have your selections, it will take approx. 4 to 6 weeks for me to design, publish and send your high quality photobook to your address.

Help finding a wedding photographer

What are some questions I should be asking a potential wedding photographer?

Perhaps the most obvious question you should be asking a wedding photographer is if they are available. Wedding photographers in Brisbane get booked our relatively quickly. Ensure the photographer is available on your specific wedding date before diving into other details.

Make sure you understand exactly what you're getting for your money. Ensure you get high resolution images so you have the rights to print off your own photos.

Local knowledge can be beneficial for finding the best photo locations and dealing with weather or venue-related challenges.

Discuss the post-production timeline, how long this will take and the number of edited photos you’ll receive, and the method of delivery. Make sure there are no nasty hidden extras.

Ensure the photographer has contingency plans to handle unexpected situations on your wedding day. Remember to ask about what camera's they use, do they have any back up wedding lenses and if their camera as duel card slots.

Ask how the photographer copes if the weather is not good.. Here it will help if the photographer has worked at your wedding and reception venues previously and knows the local area.

Ask if the photographer has professional indemnity insurance to cover the cost of retaking your photographs if something goes horribly wrong.

What I should know..

When making a wedding photography booking

Having found a photographer that suits your requirements you need to discuss a price for the job. You will find that you generally get what you pay for and the more experienced photographers are likely to charge more, but this is not always the case.

Make sure you ask each photographer to quote for the same job otherwise you will not be able to compare quotations. There are variables in the cost of a wedding photographer: how long you want the photographer to be in attendance, the approximate number of photographs taken, the number of shots to be included in the package that is presented to you and the type of album the final photographs will be presented in. Don’t forget to:

  • Ask to see complete albums of photographs from two or three weddings.
  • Do you feel that the album tells the story of the whole wedding?
  • Do the pictures of the couple differ from each other: some close up, some mid distance, some full length?
  • Are the groups shots group shots well organised? Ensure that the person is the centre of focus in the picture rather than the background.
  • Make sure you can see detail in the pictures: of the wedding dress, the wedding cake and the flowers
  • Would you feel happy owning your version of the pictures you are shown and displaying them to your family and friends?

Finally, make sure the photographer explains their quote and tells you of any extras that may be involved in advance.

The importance of digital files

Many couples have encountered the frustration of not having full copyright access to their wedding photos. Some photographers restrict access by providing only low-resolution images or watermarked versions, forcing couples to purchase additional images individually. This practice not only adds to the overall cost but also limits the freedom to print, share, or create personalised keepsakes.

High-resolution wedding photographs are invaluable treasures, capturing precious moments in stunning detail. Having access to these files allows couples to create their own prints, albums, or canvases, preserving memories exactly how they envision them. It offers flexibility for sharing with family and friends, and ensures the longevity of cherished moments.

At Lucas Kraus Photography, we prioritise client satisfaction by providing non-watermarked, high-resolution images with full copyright access. We believe in empowering couples to relive their special day on their own terms, whether it’s through printing, creating albums, or crafting custom canvases. Our commitment to quality and accessibility from our wedding photography packages ensures that every couple receives the full value of their investment, without any hidden restrictions or additional costs. With us, your memories are yours to cherish and share as you please.
